Motorola Planning Phone to Show Feature Films

A "media monster" is coming out of the Motorola closet. That from Chief Executive Ed Zander, who talked about a new multimedia mobile phone at the Software 2007 conference. The phone, to be released next week, will be able to display full-motion video, to the extent of feature films at up to 30 frames-a-second, Zander said. The phone won't have movies stored in its hard drive, of course. It will be up to you the user to insert SD cards with your favorite films on them. If you're a digital imager, you probably already carry around a handful of these at various times. One thing we don't know yet—but we likely will know on Tuesday, when the phone is unveiled—is how big the viewscreen is and whether it will be widescreen-capable. Motorola also plans to release several other 3G and Java-based products in the coming months.
